A little bit of a theme here but again, another orphan with a real strength of character.

I mean I could fly to where I want to, keep everything and more in my bag, talk to the birds, jump into art and dance with cartoon penguins. Who wouldn't?

How are you all doing? 

It's Six for Sunday time and the theme this week is 6 characters you'd like to be stranded with.

Ooh this is a tricky one but I've had a good old think and this is what I have come up withL

1,  Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird
Atticus encompasses everything that I stand for - equality for all regardless of race and religion and was prepared to go to court to defend someone of another race, wrongfully accused of a crime.

2. Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief
A book lover who helps to hide a Jewish boy from the Nazi's during the war.

3. Tilly Pages from Pages & Co. Tilly and the Bookwanderers
I mean, who wouldn't want to go inside their favourite book!

4. Sophie from the BFG
How I'd love to meet the BFG and go on an adventure with him.

5. Paddington Bear
I'd love to bumble along, eating my favourite sandwiches (not necessarily marmalade), unwittingly causing chaos as I go yet have no clue about it.

#SixforSunday

Hello hello my lovelies,

Another week gone by and still it's stormy out. My half term is over and it's back to work tomorrow.
Whilst I love being at home, it has been a bit of a disastrous week. My car went in for it's MOT. £195 later it passed! Oh my goodness. That meant all my plans for the week went out of the window as I had no money. Then the following day, I left the freezer door open and didn't realise until the next afternoon, so I had to throw everything away. Sad times!

Anyway, enough wallowing in the bad things, let's get on to the Six For Sunday meme. The theme this week is favourite covers or types of cover.

I'm one of those people who is really swayed by a book cover. I was talking to my class about this the other week, and one of my boys said that he isn't interested in the cover, so long as the blurb is good. That's what makes books so interesting don't you think? They mean different things to different people. What one sees in one could be seen differently by another. 
I have an unwritten rule thatI won't read a book if I've seen the film first. This is because I like to use my imagination and picture the scenes the way I want them to be. If I watch the film after I've read the book I can adjust my thinking and try to understand why the producer saw it differently to me. 
Do you have any unwritten rules?

Anyway, back to book covers. I am a sucker for gold foiling, elaborate and beautiful covers. Those that don't give much away so that I want to get on in and read it. I bought a copy of The Binding purely because of the book cover. When I then read the blurb, that was it, I had to dive straight in.

I've decided to go a bit rogue here and choose some book covers of books I haven't read yet but want to just because of the book cover (not having read the blurb) and some I have.

These are my favourite 6.

1. The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill


The title doesn't give much away and the cover doesn't tell us much either. I'm intrigued!

2. Moonlocket by Peter Bunzl

This is one from the Cogheart series. I haven't read any of them yet but I love this cover. Let me in!

3. Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy

 I'm currently reading this on audible. How beautiful is this?

4.Orion Lost by Alastair Chisholm

Love this cover! Not read this one.

5. The Turnaway Girls by Hayley Chewins

This cover is just b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Not read it though.

6. A Sprinkle Of Sorcery by Michelle Harrison

Just stunning cover and read it too!

Six for Sunday

Hello, hello my lovelies,

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry for not blogging just lately. I have been soooo busy with my teacher workload that I just haven't had the time or when I HAVE had the time, I haven't had any oomph!

Anyway, I'm here now so let's see if I can get back on track again.

So, this week on Six for Sunday we are being asked to give 6 reasons about why we love blogging.
#SixforSunday is run by Steph over at alittlebutalot. Click on the link to find all the prompts for the first quarter of the year and details of how to take part.

1. I'm new to this blogging lark and feel that at the moment I am talking to myself. I'm hoping that this is going to become as much of a habit as reading is for me. It's still a work in progress but hopefully I'm getting there!

2. I love books and this is a way for me to talk about the thing I love! Sometimes I think I'm more in love with books themselves, authors, book chat, book shops, anything booky rather than the actual reading (am I alone with this? Does this make me weird?) but I can't help it. Yes I love reading, but I love actual books more! 

3. I'm trying to use this blog as a way of having time for me. My work/life balance seriously needs adjusting as it is heavily on the work side at the moment, but I can see a light at the end of this tunnel.

4. Being new, I find the actual process of writing blogs quite tricky, but I'm looking at it as if I'm learning a new skill. Can I add it to my cv?

5. Having started blogging, I've found lots of other blogs that I really like. Steph, who runs #SixforSunday is one particular blogger that I don't just like, I actually admire. My aim is to be like Steph! 

6. Since I've started blogging I;ve found that I'm interacting more with books and authors. I have to admit that I do get a little star struck when an author that I like replies to a tweet or comment. It's so exciting!

Six for Sunday

Hello, Hello my lovelies.

Today I thought I'd join in with a weekly meme hosted by alittlebutalot called #sixforSunday.
Each week Steph gives a prompt to answer. I'm hoping to do as many as I can so fingers crossed.

So the prompt this week is Six Bookish Resolutions.

1. Read more!
This term, my work load has been huge. Although I'm a teacher in a 2 form entry school, we haven't been able to share the planning or any organisation so it has all been for me to do. To say I've been shattered is an understatement; so I've slacked off with my reading a fair bit. I always read before bed but being so tired I've been falling asleep really quickly. So this term, with fingers crossed and a good wind, things will change at work so I SHOULD be able to read more. I will continue to read before bed (a habit since I was little) but also have a bath most nights so I can read there plus I'm going to download audible (are there any other audio book apps?) so I can listen in my car whilst I drive to work. It's a 45 minute journey each way so I should get through a lot just with that alone.

2. Keep up a reading journal
As I mentioned in a different blog post a couple of days ago, I ventured into bullet journalling before. Whilst I absolutely loved it, having to draw the spreads every week became tiresome. So, I was bought a planner by my lovely TA for Christmas which is already filled in for organising my weeks and have decided to start a reading journal. It will be plain and simple so easy to maintain ... hopefully. Watch this space!

3. Spend less time on Twitter
I don't know about you but I just love Twitter. You can connect with so many wonderful people. To be honest, I'm more of a lurker and would love to be more active but I'm not outgoing enough. Anyway, if I spend less time on Twitter, I will have more time to read!

4. Read for pleasure
I run a KS2 book club at school and is something I am passionate about but I need to remember that for myself. I want to read what I want to when I want to and because I enjoy it; not because I  can see everyone else in Twitter land is (Twitter has a lot to answer for lol).

5.Do more NetGalley reviews
Whilst I've just talked about reading what I want, I also want to write more reviews. However, I've got to stop picking every single book and not getting to them and just start requesting those I actually want.

6. Become an aficionado in middle grade books
OK so this is just a fun resolution but there are just so many good middle grade authors out there that I feel like I should know about every single book published or going to be published. I know this isn't possible but I can keep my expectations high!
